So, the follow up story is that I spent the whole day trying to make our house safer. We put up a light on the back of our house (where the break-in was). I put more bolts on the front and back doors. We put up curtains over the windows in the stairwell and the spare bedroom.
So now it should be safer. And I we're trying to track down someone to put bars on the window. And we're going to have a fence built around our house right away.

Thanks. Yeah, it was nuts. I carry a stick with me everywhere at night now. And pepper spray all day.
holy crap! better put out one of those laptop guns from Perfect Dark too. Glad you guys are safe.
